As a Freelance Graphic Designer I worked on several projects with the marketing team at Better Read Than Dead, a boutique bookstore location in Newtown, Sydney.
My process with clients or projects where the visual style is not clearly defined is to collect and organise conceptual inspiration such as below. This allows my client and myself to explore what visual style and mood we are wanting to achieve. In the case of the Autumn Reading Guide (pictured above), the client asked for something between Concepts 2 and 3, which led to the final cover design below.
I followed the same process when designing the above book coversĀ for a series of writing competition compilations hosted and published by Better Read Than Dead.
Changes collates the entries from children under the age of 12, while Twist Of Fate was written by teenagers over the age of 13. Better Read Than Dead's main goal was that the covers represented the very different moods of the two compilations.
